Right so, unless you’ve been hiding under a planet-sized rock in a planet-sized cave on a completely different planet-sized planet you’ve probably heard about the anniversary of the assassination of the 35th president of the United States, John F Kennedy. And of course all the theories, conspiracy or otherwise, that come with it.
But did you know JFK wasn’t the only one who was assassinated on the 22nd November?
No I didn’t! Please continue enlightening me with what I assume will be a random, yet educationally witty post! – I hear you all yell.
[Insert intriguing music here- Something along the lines of Dun-Dun Duuuuun! Also Jaws soundtrack would fit well here. Maybe its not the soundtrack but the one that goes Dun, Dun, Dun, Dun, DundundundundundunDUN! You know the one. Great let’s move on.]
Ever heard of Edward Teach?
“Of course we have!” You scream in unison
How about Edward Thatch?
“Yep, him too!” You screech….again in unison
Ever heard of Blackbeard?
“Wasn’t he in that movie Pirates of The Caribbean?” You all whisper at different times, just to mix it up.
Well you might be interested to know that they are actually all the same person!
What? I did not see that coming! You are a genius of unparalleled proportions!
Thank you! You may also be interested to know that on the 22nd of November 1718, that’s right only a mere 295 years ago, Edward Thatch, Aka Edward Teach, Aka Blackbeard, was also killed in a covert Government operation. (Woops I just assumed that JFK was killed by a covert Government operation….oh well that’s TV for ya!)
But the similarities between the assassinations of JFK and Blackbeard don’t just stop there. Other than the date they both were assassinated at the whims of an apparent secretive government plot. They were both male. They both lived in America but had origins on the other side of the Atlantic. Their killers took off both their heads- One had his head taken off by a rifle and one had his head taken off by sword and hung up for everyone to see. They both had the use of both of their eyes. Both were claimed to have fought on the side of African Americans- JFK fought for the rights of African Americans and, well, there are documents that claim that Blackbeard had former African slaves as equal members of his crew rather than ship stock which was the style at the time.
And…eh, of course they both intertwined burning fuses in their beards to terrify their enemy.
Well maybe only one of them did that! Yeah, I guess Kennedy wasn’t as clean cut as he made himself out to be.Wow you are so knowledgeable but where exactly is the conspiracy we were all led to believe would be appearing here.
Ok, so get this…despite the reputation Blackbeard has today and despite his scary appearance there are no established record that he killed anyone previous to the day he was attacked and beheaded!
Huh? Thats it?Is that it? To almost everybody Blackbeard is known as a marauder, a vicious murderer with no conscience, a torturer like this….
Was he framed? Was he a patsy? Who knows? But with all these conspiracy theories out there this is probably the only one putting the word ‘Piracy’ in Conspiracy.
(I was also going to end it with- this isn’t really the greatest conspiracy theory ever but it is possibly the greatest “Cons and Piracy” theory ever.)
Which would you have used or have you got a better ending?
